Vault keeps your files private in encrypted, password-protected vaults. There are two kinds, and Vault Pro opens both:

Secure Folder vaults

An encrypted folder that works without any special privileges. Your files are protected at rest when the vault is closed. This is what the App Store version of Vault creates and opens.

Disk Image vaults

The strong one. An AES-256 encrypted disk image, mounted as a real volume. Your files are never written to the local disk in the clear, even while the vault is open. macOS only lets an app mount these outside the App Store sandbox, so opening and creating Disk Image vaults is what Vault Pro adds.

Have an older vault?

If you made vaults in an earlier version of Vault, they are almost certainly Disk Image vaults. Download Vault Pro and open them exactly as before - your existing vaults are untouched and fully compatible.
